Mulgrave tenant clubs invest in new lifesaving defibrillator
The Mulgrave Cricket Club have made an important investment to purchase a new defibrillator which will remain onsite at the club all year round. In conjunction with Mulgrave Football Club and Eastern Devils Football Club, the tenant clubs have each made an equal contribution for the $2k total purchase cost to replace the old, out of date device. The new device was delivered on 21st May 2022.
MCC wish to recognise a donation from Jan and Gary Broley, long-time supporters of the club, who covered the cost of our contribution.
The modern AED's (automated external defibrillator) are especially designed for use in public areas and packaged inside a lightweight and easy-to-operate system. The device checks the heart's rhythm, and if required sends a shock to the heart to restore normal rhythm. The device is used to help people having cardiac arrest.
The device also provides Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) audio coaching in order to perform chest compressions when a person's breathing or heart has stopped.

Heart Attack vs Cardiac Arrest: people often use these terms interchangeably, but they are not synonyms. A heart attack is when blood flow to the heart is blocked, and sudden cardiac arrest is when the heart malfunctions and suddenly stops beating unexpectedly. Sudden cardiac arrest is much worse than a heart attack. It is a condition in which the victim's heartbeat stops abruptly and unexpectedly due to an abnormal heart rate or arrhythmia. A sudden cardiac arrest victim will have little or no fore-warning, will lose consciousness and collapse.
