Celebrating the Inaugural Women's Team - Season 2025/26

In the 2025/26 season, Mulgrave Cricket Club proudly fielded its inaugural women’s cricket team in the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association (FGDCA) Women’s B Grade competition—a significant milestone in the club’s history.

The season exceeded all expectations. Not only did we successfully assemble a full squad to register our first team, but the group embraced the experience, fostered a positive and inclusive environment, and demonstrated steady improvement throughout the year. This culminated in an outstanding achievement—earning a place in the Grand Final.

This initiative has been the result of several years of planning and commitment. With a strong junior cricket program at Mulgrave, we have historically seen many talented girls progress through our ranks, only to move elsewhere to pursue senior opportunities. Establishing a women’s team has been a key priority in providing a clear pathway within our club.

In the lead-up to the season, productive discussions with our co-tenants at Mulgrave Reserve, Eastern Devils Football Club, proved instrumental. The interest shown by a number of their players provided the momentum required to form a competitive and enthusiastic squad, enabling us to register our first standalone team.

Pre-season “come and try” sessions further strengthened our numbers, attracting a diverse mix of participants—from experienced cricketers to talented athletes new to the game. This diversity became a defining strength of the team.

While there was some uncertainty heading into the opening rounds, the grading within the FGDCA Women’s B competition proved to be well suited to the group. The balance within the team allowed all players to contribute meaningfully, while also maintaining a competitive edge. The result was an enjoyable season marked by exciting passages of play, including strong batting performances and memorable wicket-taking efforts.

Off the field, the team received tremendous support from friends, family, and the broader Mulgrave Cricket Club community. Life Members, senior men’s teams, and club supporters all played a part in creating a welcoming and encouraging environment for the squad.
